7 reasons why your CBD isn’t working, and the solutions

Is your CBD having insufficient or even counterproductive effects? We've listed 7 reasons for poor efficacy, plus the solutions.

It’s a common complaint: “I’ve been using CBD for weeks, but don’t notice anything.” This frustration is understandable, especially if you have heard many positive stories about CBD. The truth is that CBD does not work the same for everyone, and there are several reasons why you may not experience effects.

Before completely writing off CBD, it is important to understand that there is usually a logical explanation for lack of results. In most cases, there are simple adjustments that can make the difference between disappointment and successful CBD experience.

1. Your expectations are too high or unrealistic

One of the most common reasons people think CBD doesn’t work is that they have false expectations. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs or THC, CBD works subtly and gradually.

The problem: Many people expect immediate, drastic changes: like taking a painkiller. However, CBD does not act psychoactively and does not produce an immediate palpable “effect” as some people expect.

The solution: adjust your expectations. CBD supports the body in restoring balance, which takes time. Consider CBD as a dietary supplement that works gradually, not as a fast-acting drug. Give it at least 2-4 weeks before passing judgment.

2. You are using too low a dosage

Wrong dosage is probably the most common reason why CBD does not work enough. Many people start too cautiously and do not increase the dosage enough to be effective.

The problem: Each person has a unique body weight, metabolism and response to substances. What works for your friend may not work for you. Some people simply need a higher dosage.

The solution: Start low, but build up systematically. Start with 10-15 mg per day and increase by 5-10 mg each week until you notice results. If necessary, keep a journal of your dosage and effects. Don’t be afraid to go higher: doses up to 100 mg of CBD per day are no problem for most people.

3. You chose the wrong type of CBD

Not all CBD products are the same. The type of CBD you use can make a big difference in effectiveness.

The problem: CBD isolate contains only pure CBD, while full spectrum CBD oil also contains other cannabinoids and terpenes that work together (the “entourage effect”).

The solution: Experiment with different types. If you use CBD isolate with no results, try broad spectrum or full spectrum. Some people respond only to the combination of different cannabinoids. Also consider different forms of administration. What works by mouth may not work through the skin.

4. The quality of your CBD product is poor

Unfortunately, not all CBD products are of good quality. Research shows that many products do not contain what it says on the label.

The problem: Some products contain much less CBD than advertised, or no CBD at all. Others may contain contaminants or be mislabeled. The CBD market is still relatively young, and not all suppliers have the same quality standards.

The solution: Buy only from reliable suppliers that publish laboratory tests, such as Dutch Balance. Make sure the product has been tested for purity, CBD content, and harmful substances. With Wedihemp and Dutch Hemp brands, this is always the case!

5. You are not using CBD consistently enough

CBD works best when used regularly to support the endocannabinoid system.

The problem: Sporadic use or giving up too soon prevents CBD from working effectively. The endocannabinoid system needs time to respond and adapt.

The solution: Use CBD daily, preferably at the same times. Give it at least 2-4 weeks. Treat it as a routine, like taking vitamins. Consistency is more important than perfect dosage!

6. The timing and manner of ingestion is wrong

How and when you take CBD can greatly affect its effectiveness.

The problem: CBD on an empty stomach may not be absorbed as well. Also, timing of intake can be important depending on what you want to achieve.

The solution: Preferably take CBD oil with a meal for better absorption. For better sleep, take it at night, for daily support in the morning. When used under the tongue, hold the oil for 60-90 seconds before swallowing for optimal absorption.

7. Medications or other substances interfere with operation

CBD may not work as well if you are taking certain medications, and other substances can also reduce its effectiveness.

The problem: CBD is broken down by the same liver enzymes as many drugs. As a result, medications can affect CBD action or vice versa. Alcohol, nicotine and caffeine can also interfere.

The solution: Discuss CBD use with your doctor, especially if you are taking other medications. Be mindful of interactions and consider taking CBD and medications at different times. Reduce alcohol and other substances that stress your system.

Give yourself the best chance of success

CBD does not work the same for everyone, but with the right approach and realistic expectations, most people can actually benefit from quality CBD. Give it at least 2-3 months with different dosages and products before giving up. Always discuss use with your doctor with medication or health problems, and remember that patience and consistency are key to success.
