What is CBN oil?
CBN, short for cannabinol, is a cannabinoid: a compound that occurs naturally in the hemp plant, just like CBD and THC. Like CBD, and unlike THC, CBN is not psychoactive, and it is legal to use. What is special about CBN is that it counts as the plant’s end product: it arises through oxidation, in which THC is converted into CBN over time. That is why it is found mainly in older plants. For CBN oil, specially grown hemp is used that naturally develops a higher CBN content and ripens a little longer. Cold CO2 extraction produces a full spectrum extract from it, the basis for the oil.
What makes full spectrum CBN special?
Our CBN oil is full spectrum. Alongside CBN it also contains other cannabinoids such as CBD and CBC, plus a fraction of THC (always less than 0.05%). In a full spectrum oil those compounds complement one another. Like other cannabinoids, CBN binds with the endocannabinoid system, a system of the body’s own that is involved in many processes. More research is needed into what CBN does exactly. What we hear back from customers is that they often use it as part of their evening routine.
How do you use CBN oil?
You use CBN oil just like CBD oil: put drops under your tongue, let it sit for a minute and then swallow. That way it is absorbed through the mucous membranes. Many people take it as part of their evening routine, about half an hour before going to bed. Just starting? Then begin with a low dose of 6 to 8 mg at a time. With a 5% oil that is 3 to 4 drops. Build up calmly, 1 to 3 times a day, until you find the dose that suits you.
Frequently asked questions about CBN oil
What does CBN oil do?
Search for this and you will find virtually the same answer everywhere: CBN is supposed to be good for your night’s rest. We do not go along with that. No health claims have been approved for CBN in the European Union, and research into what CBN does exactly is still limited. Webshops that tell you CBN helps against insomnia, pain or anxiety are overstepping the mark by a long way. What we can tell you: what CBN is, how it arises, what is in it and how you dose it. That many people take it in the evening is a pattern of use we hear back, not a promise from us.
What is the difference between CBD and CBN?
They are both cannabinoids from the hemp plant, but they arise differently. CBD is produced by the plant itself. CBN is an end product: it arises through oxidation, in which THC is converted into CBN over time. That is why CBN is found mainly in older plants, and why specially grown hemp that ripens longer is used for CBN oil. Our CBN oil is full spectrum, so it contains CBD too.
Is CBN oil legal in the Netherlands?
Yes. CBN is not psychoactive and does not fall under the Dutch Opium Act. What does count is the THC content, and in our full spectrum oils that is always less than 0.05%. Note: online you often read that the limit is 0.2%. That figure is about how much THC the hemp plant may contain in the field, not about what may be in a product.
Does CBN get you high?
No. CBN does arise from THC, but it is not psychoactive. The fraction of THC in a full spectrum oil is too small for any intoxicating effect.
How many drops of CBN oil do you take?
Start with a low dose of 6 to 8 mg at a time. With a 5% oil that is 3 to 4 drops, because it contains about 2 mg per drop. Build up calmly, 1 to 3 times a day, until you find the amount that suits you. The number of mg per drop is stated with every product.
Who is better off not using CBN oil?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use it. If you take medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist first. Also read
