What is CBG oil?

CBG stands for cannabigerol, like CBD a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in the hemp plant. CBG is not psychoactive, unlike THC, so it does not get you ‘high’. In the plant CBG is a kind of building block: during growth the plant converts CBG into THC and CBD, which leaves little of it in most plants. For CBG oil, special hemp varieties are used that do this more slowly and are harvested younger, so that an extract with a high CBG content is produced.

CBG and the difference from CBD

Our CBG oil is full spectrum: alongside CBG it also contains CBD and other cannabinoids such as CBN and CBC, plus a fraction of THC (always less than 0.05%). Because those compounds are taken together, they complement one another; that is called the entourage effect. Research into CBG is still relatively in its infancy. Anyone who wants to look beyond CBD will find CBG an interesting addition.

Which strength of CBG oil do you choose?

We carry CBG oil in 5%, 10% and 20%, from Dutch Hemp, Wedihemp and our own brand Dutch Balance. The difference is in the amount of CBG per drop, not in the quality.
  • 5%: about 2 mg of CBG per drop. Handy to start calmly or to dose accurately.
  • 10%: about 4 mg per drop. The middle ground.
  • 20%: about 8 mg per drop. For anyone keeping to a higher dose who wants to manage with fewer drops.
All variants are full spectrum. Not sure? Then start with the 5% and build up calmly.

How do you dose CBG oil?

You take CBG oil just like CBD oil: put drops under your tongue, let it sit for about a minute and swallow. That way it is absorbed through the mucous membranes. One drop of 5% CBG contains about 2 mg of CBG. Start calmly with a low dose and build up to an amount that suits you; the number of mg per drop is in the product information.

Frequently asked questions about CBG oil

What does CBG oil do?

We may not make any statements about that. No health claims have been approved for CBG in the European Union, and research into CBG is still relatively in its infancy. We tell you what CBG is, how it arises and how you dose it. What you do with it is up to you.

What is the difference between CBD and CBG?

In the plant CBG is a building block: during growth the hemp plant converts CBG into THC and CBD, among other things. So little CBG remains in a fully grown plant. For CBG oil, special varieties are used that do this more slowly and that are harvested younger. Our CBG oil is full spectrum, so alongside CBG it also contains CBD, CBN and CBC.

Does CBG get you high?

No, CBG is not psychoactive. The fraction of THC in a full spectrum oil stays below 0.05% and is too small for any intoxicating effect.

How many drops of CBG oil do you take?

One drop of a 5% oil contains about 2 mg of CBG. Start calmly with a low dose and build up to an amount that suits you. The number of mg per drop is stated with every product.

Can you combine CBG and CBD?

You can, and in practice you already do: our CBG oil is full spectrum, so it contains CBD too. If you want to combine them separately, start with one product at a time so you know where a response comes from.

Who is better off not using CBG oil?

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use it. If you take medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist first. Also read CBD and medicines.
