What are CBD patches?
You stick CBD patches on your skin, just like an ordinary plaster, but they are not meant to dress a wound. They release CBD gradually through the skin over the course of the day. In principle they resemble nicotine patches, only they contain cannabidiol instead of nicotine. CBD is not psychoactive, unlike THC.
Why a patch and not an oil?
The difference is mainly practical. With oil you have to measure, use drops and put up with the taste, and you have to remember it. A patch you apply once and you are done: it releases for 24 hours, without measuring and without taste. What a patch does for you is not something we can make statements about.
Which CBD patch suits you?
We carry two variants, both from Dutch Hemp. The difference is in what is in them and how much.
- Broad spectrum, 16 mg per patch. Alongside CBD this also contains the other cannabinoids and plant compounds from hemp, but without THC.
- Isolate, 50 mg per patch. This contains only CBD, no other plant compounds. The amount per patch is higher.
If you want the broader plant profile without THC, broad spectrum is the obvious choice. If you want pure CBD and a higher amount per patch, the isolate makes more sense. Which of the two suits you depends on your preference. We make no statements about a difference in effect.
Where do you stick it?
Choose a spot that is not too greasy and not too hairy, because the patch adheres less well there. The inside of your upper arm works well. Chest, shoulder or side is possible too. Replace the patch according to the instructions on the packaging.
Frequently asked questions about CBD patches
What do CBD patches do?
We may not make any statements about that. No health claims have been approved for CBD in the European Union. Online you will find plenty of suppliers telling you that a CBD patch helps against pain, stress or poor sleep. Those are overstepping the mark, and that says more about the seller than about the product. We tell you what a patch is, how much CBD is in it and how you use it. What you do with it is up to you.
Does a patch work better than oil?
We do not know, and anyone who claims so should be able to back it up. Online you come across confident figures about how much better absorption through the skin would be. We do not repeat those, because there is no good basis for them. What we can say: a patch releases evenly over the day and you do not have to measure anything. That is a practical difference, not a promise.
How much CBD is in a patch?
That is stated on the packaging and on the product page. Unlike with oil, where you set the dose, the amount per patch is fixed.
Does a CBD patch get you high?
No. CBD is not psychoactive.
Can you keep a patch on in the shower?
That differs per product; check the packaging. In any case, apply it to dry, clean skin, because it adheres less well to greasy or wet skin.
Who is better off not using them?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use them. If you take medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist first. If you have sensitive skin, bear in mind that the patch can cause local irritation. Also read
CBD and medicines.
Would you rather have a different form after all?
If you want to set your own dose, have a look at
CBD oil. If you are looking for something tasteless that you simply swallow,
capsules are more practical. For use on the skin we also have
cream and skincare.
