What are CBN crystals?
CBN crystals, also called CBN isolate, are the most concentrated form of cannabinol there is. At a purity of at least 99% they contain only CBN, without other cannabinoids, terpenes or plant residues. Every batch is independently tested, so you know exactly what you are bringing home.
What is CBN?
CBN (cannabinol) is a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in the hemp plant. It arises through oxidation: when THC is exposed to light and air, it turns into CBN over time. That is why CBN is found mainly in older plants. Despite that origin, CBN is not psychoactive, so it does not get you high. Research into what CBN does exactly is still limited.
Crystals or oil?
The difference is in purity and dosing.
CBN oil contains other cannabinoids alongside CBN, such as CBD and CBC, plus a fraction of THC below 0.05%. Crystals are pure CBN and nothing else: no THC, no taste, no smell. That makes them suitable if you want to decide for yourself what you take in, or if you want no THC at all.
How do you dose CBN crystals?
The maths of dosing is simple: every milligram of crystal is a milligram of CBN. You do measure the amount yourself, so a kitchen scale accurate to the milligram is not a luxury. Start with less than 10 mg the first time and build up calmly until you find the amount that suits you.
How do you use them?
The crystals have no taste or smell. The simplest way is under your tongue: place a measured amount under your tongue and let it dissolve in about a minute. You can also dissolve them in a warm drink, or make your own oil from them by mixing them with a carrier oil such as MCT or hemp seed oil. Do not heat CBN above 170 °C, because then it evaporates.
Frequently asked questions about CBN crystals
What does CBN do?
Search for this and you will find virtually the same answer everywhere: CBN is supposed to be good for your night’s rest, and it is even called the “sleep cannabinoid”. We do not go along with that. No health claims have been approved for CBN in the European Union, and the research is still limited. Sellers who tell you that CBN helps with insomnia or stress are overstepping the mark by a long way. What we tell you is what CBN is, how it arises and how you dose it. What you do with it is up to you.
What is the difference between CBN crystals and CBN oil?
Crystals are at least 99% pure CBN, nothing else.
CBN oil is full spectrum: it also contains CBD, CBC and a fraction of THC below 0.05%. With crystals you dose more exactly and take in no THC, but you have to weigh it out yourself.
Do CBN crystals get you high?
No. CBN does arise from THC, but is not psychoactive itself. Isolate contains no THC at all either.
Do you need a scale?
Yes, and one that is accurate to the milligram. An ordinary kitchen scale is too coarse. If you would rather not have that fuss,
CBN oil is more practical: there the dose per drop has already been set.
Can you make your own oil from CBN crystals?
You can. You dissolve a measured amount in a carrier oil, MCT or hemp seed oil for instance. Work out how many mg you want per millilitre and keep the oil below 170 °C.
Who is better off not using CBN?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use it. If you take medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist first. Also read
CBD and medicines.
Would you rather not weigh anything?
Then
CBN oil is more practical. Looking for other pure cannabinoids? Then have a look at
CBD crystals or
