What are adaptogens?
The term ‘adaptogen’ was introduced in 1947 by the Russian scientist Nikolai Lazarev, for compounds that would help the body adapt to stressors. According to the classic definition an adaptogen works non-specifically (against a range of stressors), has a normalising action and is harmless in normal use. Adaptogens are often mentioned in connection with the HPA axis, the system that regulates the stress response. Scientific research into adaptogens is still ongoing.Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is one of the most researched and best-known adaptogens. In the Ayurvedic tradition it has been used for more than 3000 years. The name means ‘smell of horse’ in Sanskrit. Ashwagandha contains active compounds called withanolides; our ashwagandha extract is standardised to a fixed percentage of withanolides. Preferably take it with a meal. Do not use during pregnancy or with thyroid conditions without consulting a doctor.GABA
GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain; your body produces it itself. As a supplement GABA is available in capsule form. Our quality requirements
