What are mushroom supplements?
Mushrooms have been used for thousands of years, in cooking and in herbal traditions. Supplements contain dried and ground mushroom, which naturally contains polysaccharides such as beta-glucans, among other things. You simply take the supplements as a capsule, or make tea from them with hot water.Mushrooms from Pure Mushrooms
At Dutch Balance you will find mushroom supplements from Pure Mushrooms. The brand works with organically grown mushrooms and uses only the fruiting body, which means every supplement contains a high concentration of the natural constituents. Every batch is tested.Varieties: Lion’s Mane, Chaga, Reishi and Cordyceps
We offer both single and blended preparations, with varieties known from traditional use:- Chaga: grows on birch trees in cold climates.
- Reishi: rich in polysaccharides and triterpenes, widely used traditionally.
- Lion’s Mane: used in the Eastern tradition for centuries.
- Cordyceps: traditionally used in Chinese herbalism.
Frequently asked questions about mushroom supplements
Are these the medicinal mushrooms you read about?
Yes. “Medicinal mushrooms” is the term that has become established in the market, but we do not use it as a name, because it suggests an effect that has not been demonstrated. No health claims have been approved for these mushrooms in the European Union, and that is stated on every product page too. We sell them for what they are: mushrooms with a long tradition of use and a well-described composition.
What do mushroom supplements do?
We may not make any statements about that. What we can tell you: what is in them (beta-glucans among other things and, per variety, compounds such as triterpenes), where they come from and how you take them. If you come across a supplier who lists exactly what a mushroom is good for, that supplier is overstepping the mark.
Fruiting body or mycelium: what is the difference?
This is the most important quality question in this category. The fruiting body is the mushroom as you know it; mycelium is the thread-like root network, which is often grown on grain and then ground up together with that grain. That means part of such a supplement can simply be grain. Pure Mushrooms uses only the whole fruiting body. If a label does not state which part has been used, you do not know what you are buying.
How many capsules do you take a day?
Generally 1 to 2 capsules a day with water, preferably during or after a meal. The exact advice is on every product page and on the packaging. Do not exceed the recommended daily amount.
Can you combine different mushrooms?
You can. Besides single varieties we also carry ready-made blends. Do start with one product at a time, so you know where a response comes from if you have one.
Who is better off not using them?
Are you pregnant or breastfeeding, or do you take medication? Then consult your doctor first. If you have a mould allergy, be extra careful: mushrooms are fungi.
