What is Chaga?

Chaga (Inonotus obliquus), also known as the birch conk, does not have a typical mushroom shape, but appears as a dark, gnarled growth on the trunk of birch trees. The outside is almost black and reminiscent of burnt wood, the inside is orange-brown. Chaga grows in Northern Europe, Siberia, Canada and North America, and has been used within Russian and Northern European herbal traditions for centuries, often as a tea. In its natural composition, beta-glucans, polyphenols and betulin stand out, among others (betulin comes from the birch on which chaga grows). No health claims have been approved for chaga within the EU.

Quality and origin
