What is broad spectrum CBD oil?
As with any
CBD oil, the main compound is cannabidiol (CBD), a non-psychoactive cannabinoid from the hemp plant. The CBD is obtained from the plant with cold CO2 extraction, after which a paste remains that is diluted with a carrier oil. With broad spectrum there is one extra step: after extraction the THC is filtered out. That leaves you with an oil containing all the other natural compounds, but without THC.
Full spectrum or broad spectrum?
Full spectrum contains the complete spectrum, including a fraction of THC (less than 0.05%). With broad spectrum all the compounds are there except THC. Because the compounds are taken together, they complement one another (the entourage effect), with broad spectrum therefore without THC. If you would rather not take in any THC at all, because of your work or a sensitivity for instance, broad spectrum is a logical choice.
Other types of CBD
Besides broad and full spectrum there is
CBD isolate: around 99% pure CBD without other compounds, in the form of crystals you mix yourself with oil or a drink. Not sure which type suits you? Our
guide will help you further.
Frequently asked questions about broad spectrum CBD oil
What does broad spectrum CBD do for you?
We may not make any statements about that. No health claims have been approved for CBD in the European Union. Online you will find plenty of webshops that list exactly what CBD would reduce. Those are overstepping the mark. We tell you what is in it, how it is made and how you dose it. The rest is up to you.
Is there really no THC in broad spectrum?
That is right, and it is exactly the difference from
full spectrum. After extraction the THC is filtered out, so all the other compounds from the hemp plant remain. Every batch is tested internally and externally, with a certificate, so that it can be demonstrated too.
Will I pass a drugs test with broad spectrum?
A drugs test looks for THC, and there is none in it. But we cannot guarantee the outcome of a test: that also depends on the type of test, its sensitivity and what else you use. If this really matters to you, because your employer tests for instance, discuss it with your employer or occupational health service and do not let it depend on our product page.
What is the difference between broad spectrum, full spectrum and isolate?
Full spectrum contains everything from the plant, including a fraction of THC below 0.05%. Broad spectrum contains those same compounds without THC.
CBD isolate is around 99% pure CBD, nothing else, in crystal form that you mix yourself. Our
guide walks you through it.
Does the entourage effect work without THC too?
The entourage effect is the idea that the compounds from the hemp plant complement one another when you take them together. With broad spectrum all those other compounds are still there, only the THC is not. Whether leaving out the THC makes a difference to that has not been established. So we present the entourage effect as the idea it is, not as settled fact.
What should not be combined with CBD oil?
If you take medication, consult your doctor or pharmacist first. CBD can influence how your body breaks down certain medicines. Also read
CBD and medicines. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use it.
