How long it takes CBD to work depends on how you take it
Taking CBD can be done in several ways. The four most common ways to do this are sublingually (under the tongue), orally (swallowing), transdermally (with a patch or ointment). Because CBD doesn’t start working until it enters the bloodstream and CBD takes its own route into the bloodstream for each form of ingestion, the time at which it starts working varies by method of ingestion.
CBD oil (sublingual)
Are you using CBD oil? Then you drip the oil under tongue and leave it here for a minute. Through the mucous membranes in the mouth, the oil is then immediately absorbed into the blood. It therefore begins to work very quickly. After about 20 to 40 minutes you can expect the first effects.
Oral intake (capsules, edibles, drinks)
Are you using capsules, edibles or drinks that contain CBD? Then the CBD is absorbed through your stomach and digestive tract. In this case, it takes a little longer for the CBD to start working: allow for about one to two hours, depending on how much you ate before ingestion.
CBD patches and skin products (transdermal absorption)
Do you take CBD through the skin, with plasters or an ointment, for example? Then the CBD is absorbed through the skin directly into the blood and you can also expect effects quickly: within half an hour.
How quickly CBD works also depends on your body
In addition to the method of ingestion, your body also plays a large role in how quickly you will feel the effects. For example, if you have a fast metabolism, you will feel the effects faster than if your metabolism is slower. The type of symptoms also plays a role: mild localized pains, for example, will disappear faster than chronic anxiety.
What if CBD doesn’t work (well) for me?
Have you been taking CBD and do not notice that your symptoms disappear (sufficiently) within the time mentioned above? If so, there may be several reasons:
- The product is of poor quality and contains, for example, less CBD that it says on the package.
- You have taken too little CBD to notice anything.
- Your symptoms are chronic and take time to subside.
Therefore, we always recommend choosing #1 quality CBD products with a good dose of CBD from A-brands like Wedihemp and Dutch Hemp. Try to take about 20 to 25 mg of CBD per day in the beginning, and slowly increase this dosage if the desired effects are not forthcoming. Keep in mind that chronic complaints due to stress or rheumatism, for example, simply will not disappear like snow in the sun. What we do know from experience is that inflammations and increased muscle tension can diminish within one to two weeks, after which the (pain) symptoms slowly subside. So give it some time, especially with heavier chronic complaints, because it can take longer for the CBD to start working properly.
