The ingredients for CBD sweets

With this special recipe you get not only the dose of CBD you want, but the necessary vitamins as well. That is because we make these cannabidiol sweets with 100% fresh fruit juice. Of course you can also use a carton of fruit juice, but if we are making our own sweets, we prefer to do as much as possible ourselves. That is even healthier, after all. All the ingredients you need:

  • CBD. We prefer full spectrum CBD paste, because that gives the nicest effect. Would you rather have no THC at all in your sweet? Then use CBD crystals. For this recipe 5000 mg of CBD is perfect.
  • Fruit or a mix of fruit. We use oranges ourselves because we like them, but in principle you can use any kind of fruit. Strawberries with currants and blackberries is delicious too. About two kilos, for one litre of juice.
  • Four sheets of gelatine
  • Three tablespoons of honey, agave syrup or maple syrup

You also need this to make your own CBD sweets

Besides these ingredients you of course also need a few bits and pieces to make the sweets. You can buy all these items for a few euros at your local kitchen shop, if you do not have them at home yet:

  • Moulds, small or specially for gummies
  • A blender or citrus press
  • A sieve, if needed
  • A measuring jug
  • A whisk
  • A pan (medium-sized is big enough)
  • A small ladle (or a syringe if you prefer)
  • An apron (so your clothes stay nice and clean)

Making cannabidiol sweets step by step

Do you have all the ingredients and kitchen items to hand? And are you standing in your kitchen? Then put on your apron, because we are about to start.

1. Juice the fruit

First juice the fruit. We use a citrus press for our oranges ourselves, but a blender works perfectly well too. For this recipe we need one litre of juice, which comes down to about two kilos of oranges, depending on the quality. Use your measuring jug to measure it. Are you using a blender, or fruit such as strawberries, kiwis or mangoes? Then in our view it is better to sieve the pulp out of the fruit. That way you get nice smooth sweets. But if you like a bit more texture, you can of course leave the pulp in. Even healthier too.

2. Put the juice in the pan and heat it

Then pour the fruit juice into the pan and heat it slowly. The idea is that the juice only warms up a little, so the gelatine can dissolve properly. About fifty degrees is more than enough, so the gelatine, CBD and terpenes stay nicely intact. Do not forget to keep stirring, and turn the hob to its lowest setting once the juice is up to temperature.

3. Add the CBD

Then add the CBD to the fruit juice. How much CBD you need to add depends on how strong you want to make the sweets and how big you are going to make the gummies (depending on the moulds). We ourselves find 25 mg of CBD per gummy a nice dose for a sweet weighing about 5 grams in total. A litre of juice weighs about 1 kilo, so that gives you around 200 sweets. So to make 200 sweets with 25 mg of CBD each, you need to add 5000 mg of pure CBD to the mixture, or 10 ml of CBD paste.

4. Whisk the gelatine into the mixture

Keep stirring well in the meantime and add the sheets of gelatine to the juice. Do this sheet by sheet, so the gelatine can dissolve properly and does not clump. Then whisk it through well, so a nice even mixture forms.

5. Add the honey or syrup

Then add honey or a syrup to taste. This is purely to flavour the sweets. Because we are making CBD sweets, after all, and they do have to taste good. We recommend adding a little more each time and then tasting, so you can be sure the sweets turn out as tasty as possible.

6. Fill the mould

Is your pan perfectly seasoned? Then turn the hob off completely and get out the ladle and the mould. Then spoon a little of the juice into each shape, up to the rim. You can also use a syringe for this. That works a bit more neatly but takes longer. That is why we prefer the old-fashioned ladle. More fun too.

7. Put the cannabidiol sweets in the fridge and let them cool

After filling the shapes you can put the mould in the fridge. The freezer is possible too, but in that case make sure you take the sweets out in time (after about an hour), so they do not freeze. Are you using the fridge? Then after about 3 to 4 hours the sweets have set nicely and are ready to eat.

8. Taking the CBD sweets out of the mould

Once the sweets have set properly, take them out of the fridge (or the freezer). You can then simply take the sweets out of the mould.

9. Nibble, enjoy and store

And finally: once you have made your CBD sweets the real enjoyment can begin. We recommend starting with one sweet and taking three to four sweets a day, depending on how you feel (and on how tasty the sweets have turned out, of course). The sweets are best kept in a sealed glass jar or an airtight container. That way they keep their lovely flavour and the CBD keeps its properties as well as possible.
